Finishing Tips for Banner - CPH Group Australia
Finishing and Installing are the final steps in creating stunning results with your super-sized Banner signage. Here are a few guidelines and tips...
Banner Edging and Finishing
There are a number of ways to finish a banner, the method is really determined by the installation method chosen.
Edge finishing can be done either to simply neaten the edges or to increase the strength and integrity ready for installation, particularly when using eyelets.
Edging options include stitching, banner edge tape, welding and Kedar Edging.
Stitching is as it sounds, when the edge is stitched or sewn, usually doubled over to provide a thicker base for punching through the eyelets.
Kedar Edging can also be sewn directly onto the banner ready for installation with Kedar Track (more later).
Welding, again is as it sounds, a banner welder is used to fuse the edges together when doubled over. The banner welder heats up and melts the PVC allowing it to bond to itself, the end result again is a thicker base to cope with punching and adding eyelets.
Welding can also be used to attach Kedar Edging if you’re using that method for installation.
Banner edge tape is another option, it is a double-sided tape designed specifically to stick to the banner to itself.
Banner edge tape should not be used in isolation as it adds little structural integrity and is really only for visual appearance. It is useful to neaten banner edges that will not be attached, such as the sides of hanging posters or the outer edges of a top-only mounted billboard.
Installation Options
If using eyelets, there are a number of methods to attach the Banner in position. Cord or rope can be threaded through the eyelets, but often it is as simple as using cable ties to secure the banner material in place. This is an economical method and is particularly useful for large scale fence signage.
Metal fittings, such as sailing toggles or bolts and oversized washers can be used to secure the Banner in place for a more sturdy result. This method is usually adopted when attaching to walls for long-term requirements.
Kedar Banner Tension System
The Kedar Banner Tension System is the most popular installation system for a consistent, smooth overall finish. It provides the neatest finish for long term applications and is well worth the investment for a superior result.
Also known in the market as sail track, it is primarily used when installing Banner onto walls, hoardings and billboards. It is ideal for larger-scale installations.
This system works by attaching the Kedar Edging to the edges of the Banner, as previous, which then slide into the Kedar Track, which is an aluminium extrusion available in lenghts up to 6 metres long.
To install, start at either the top or the bottom. The Kedar Track only is screwed directly on to the wall, then slide the Banner with the Kedar Edging into the track.
Working on the opposing edge, insert the Kedar Edging into the Kedar Track. The Banner with Kedar attached (Edge and Track) is then spread to make the banner even and tight, this is often a job for 2 or more people. Once even, screw the Kedar Track into the wall creating a taught banner. A tip here is to start from the opposite end to the first track already attached.
The same process applies when, or if, you are securing the left and right sides. Securing the sides is not critical, it really depends on the application and preference.
Mitred corners on the Kedar Track make for a seamless result.
